Kinson Academy

Safeguarding

Kinson Academy is committed to safeguarding children and promoting children’s welfare.  It expects all staff, volunteers and visitors to share this commitment and maintain a vigilant and safe environment.

All staff are trained to respond appropriately and immediately to any safeguarding concerns about children. Visitors to our school are asked to report any concerns immediately.

Pupil safeguarding and the promotion of our Character traits and British values are integral to everything we do here at Kinson Academy.

Safeguarding Curriculum

Great importance is placed on identifying opportunities in the taught curriculum for children to learn about safeguarding. Our curriculum is broad, but detailed and rigorous, which provides pupils with many opportunities to experience life in all its diversity, to acquire knowledge, understanding and skills that significantly impact on personal development, behaviour and welfare. We aim to equip every child with the knowledge and skills required to live a successful life and maintain their own personal safeguarding.

Our PSHRE (including Relationships & Sex Education), Religious Education and Computing Curriculums cover areas of safeguarding through the different strands with some elements explored in greater detail.

We are thoughtful and responsive in our teaching as we recognise that some more sensitive subjects need to be taught at an age appropriate level, in small groups or even at 1:1 level where appropriate.

Where appropriate, we seek experts to visit our pupils to empower and enable them to develop a greater depth of understanding around personal safeguarding first hand.   Some opportunities are pupils have are:

  • NSPCC workshops -Speak out stay safe and PANTS
  • Road Safety with the BCP team
  • Bikeability with the BCP team
  • AFCB workshops around personal development and e-safety
  • Poolside and Water safety as part of Swimming lessons
  • Fire safety awareness with Dorset fire Brigade
  • SCARF workshops around personal development
  • Visitors from charities and the world of work
